Too Many Flowers

Too Many Flowers
an Installation by
Nebulosus Severine

Opening Reception
Saturday January 16th, 2016
10 AM – 2 PM SLT
The Artist will be in attendance

TooManyFlowersposter2Too Many Flowers is an installation that revolves around the topics of body autonomy, female sexual violence, gendered imbalances of power, the subjugation of women, rape culture, and abortion.

To commemorate the upcoming 43rd anniversary of the landmark Roe vs. Wade decision (January 22nd 1973) Odyssey is proud to open “Too Many Flowers” – an installation by New Media and Visual Artist Nebulosus Severine.

“Too Many Flowers” is a provocative work that examines the condition of female sexuality in the modern world. Beautiful and provocative, this installation (like much of Severine’s online work) is not simply artwork that one views – it is an exploratory journey to be experienced.

Join us on Saturday January 16th from 10 AM to 2 PM SLT to celebrate the official opening on Odyssey.

This installation was most recently presented as part of the mixed reality international group show Circle Jerks, which ran from 14-28 November at the Minuit Art Gallery in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia and on Odyssey.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS INSTALLATION CONTAINS SUBJECT MATTER THAT SOME VISITORS MAY FIND DISTURBING, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE.

Artist Statement
My art, an extension of my consciousness, is continuously evolving; it aims to elicit a visceral response in the viewer or participant. I am quite particular in my use of color to capture emotion & mood; I create what I feel & perceive through observation and introspection.

Much of my recent work has been created in the virtual world of Second Life, where I have been exhibiting since 2005. I am drawn to New Media arts and to virtual communities for their groundbreaking experimental and interactive potential.

Senses Places moves in

*sensesplacesff1Senses Places has taken up residence on the Odyssey Simulator with a new sky platform for rehearsals and performances.

Senses Places uses a live webcam interface to read movements of participants IRL. The interface then translates these movements to the participant’s avatar in virtual space. Another layer is added as RL dancers in remote locations interact with large-scale projections of these dancing avatars.

At one of Senses Places’ most recent events on Odyssey dancers in Portugal improvised against live projections of Second Life avatars (whose movement are being triggered by the webcam interfaces of Liz Solo and Isabel Valverde)

AOM for Odyssey

POGO WITH AOM2Odyssey Art and Performance Simulator has housed a remarkable array of artists who are pushing the edges of art and identity in the virtual world Second Life.
The Avatar Orchestra Metaverse began at Odyssey in 2007, and is rehearsing there now in preparation for its July 2013 performance at the first annual Deep Listening Art and Science Conference in Troy, New York.
Odyssey is funded by the artists who use it, and is voluntarily managed currently by artist Liz Solo. AOM is excited to host this event to help raise funds for Odyssey’s continued existence, to thank Liz and previous managers (Sugar Seville, Helfe Ihnen and Fau Ferdinand) and to reflect on our shared time in Second Life together .
We invite you to immerse yourself with AOM
Friday June 14, 12 noon SLT
at Odyssey …
… where you will be greeted individually, serenaded by the ethereal tones of AOM voices and instruments and invited to join us …
… lounging, breathing, sounding, and bouncing around with flying fruit, giant chickens and other fantastic creations designed by AOM set builder Frieda Kuterna aka Frieda Korda. In exchange for donations to Odyssey, you will receive a unique AOM instrument conceived by vocalist-sound artist Viv Corringham aka Zonzo Spyker and built by AOM luthier extraordinaire Norman Lowrey aka North Zipper.
See you there!
